Oh Yeah!  I am getting excited!

The Dead are playing in Denver this week – Thursday night at the Pepsi Center.  I can’t wait….

I haven’t seen The Dead play since long before Jerry Garcia died.

My brother just told me about the two shows they played this weekend at the Spectrum in Philadelphia.  From what I gather, Friday night was good, but Saturday night – May 2nd – was awesome.  According to my brother:

2. Brown Eyed Women
3. Good Mornin’ Little Schoolgirl
4. Althea
5. He’s Gone >
6. Uncle John’s Band >
7. Mason’s Children

Set 2

1. Jam >
2. Good Lovin’ >
3. Cumberland Blues >

AMC Oscar Showcase 2009

Well, it’s over! I managed to get through 5 movies on Saturday with the help of Toby and Sarah. I’m still working on the written blog post, but I’ll post the six videos below so you can check ’em out if you wish.

Restaurant Week Has Started!

It’s that time of the year – Restaurant Week in Denver!
I love restaurant week! All the cool expensive restaurants have a deal where you can pay 52.80 a couple or 26.40 a person if you are flying solo to enjoy some yummy eats!
Make sure you check the menu’s some of them offer up free wine or discounted cocktails – gotta make sure you get the most for your money in this economy!

My roster for this year is as follows:
Cru (yes I already know I love it, but doesn’t hurt to make sure!)
Vesta Dipping Grill (been meaning to try this place forever)
The Oceanaire
Soleil Mediterranean Grill and Wine
Pearl Street Grill

Keep an eye on Yelp for my reviews!

If you haven’t made your reservations for 5280 week, you are in luck, they just extended the end date to March 6th! Woohoo!
Get your choices in and dine away!!!

Saturday at the Oscars!

amc_theatres_cmyk_sDenver, are you ready to have some serious movie geektastic time for a good price?  A funktasticly freaky filmfest is going live nationwide this Saturday!

My favorite movie theatre chain is doing a Oscar Nominated Movie Showcase these Saturday all day at both Highlands Ranch 24 and Westminster 24.  When I say AMC rocks my house I’m not saying that because they’ve asked me to do some blogging, vlogging and twittering but because between the major movie houses in the area, they’ve won my heart.

As a blogger, I follow the sage advice that full disclosure makes baby Jesus giggle and coo.  And I’m all about the little guy being content and not throwing lightening bolts into my cranium.

Ever since I was in high school I would start drooling geek saliva when the chance to watch movies at HR 24.  How they have the seats setup, the overall feel and just the fact that I’ve never had too much trouble going to the moving pictures there cements it.  If I could marry AMC, I would.

So when they asked me to do some fun social media stuff, I said, “Oh hellz yea baabbyyy!”

I was a mite bit more controlled when speaking to the business woman on the phone, but inside my geek soul was a dancin’ the Charlie Brown dance.

So, I’m going to be at Westminster 24 doing some blogging and video blogging with a friend or two but I’d love to see you there.  I’ve not got details on where and if I’ll be able to setup as those are still under construction, but I foresee doing some video voting on what the big winners will be, some interviews about what movie is better and on and on.  I’ll update here and on my twitter as I know more.

Ticket information and times are below.
Highlands Ranch 24 Tickets and Westminster 24 Tickets

Movie start times a la local time
Milk 10:30 a.m.
The Reader 1:05 p.m.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 3:45 p.m.
Slumdog Millionaire 7:15 p.m.
Frost/Nixon 9:45 p.m.

A few announcements…

Hey Denver!  How you be doing?

I wanted to jump in here and announce that AMC Theatres has given me a great chance to do some blogging, vlogging, intervewiing, twittering and all kinds of fun stuff for the upcoming “Best Picture Showcase” going on on the 21st of Feb all day at Westminster Prom and Highlands Ranch 24.  30 bucks gets you five films for review before the Oscars.  Cool, huh?

Well, I’ll be at the Westminster Prom doing live blogging, twittering, vlogging when I can and whatever else I can to take advantage of being able to report on a local event.  Who knows, maybe we’ll have a streaker or something.  You never know in the crazy town of Denver.

Well, odds are not in my favor on the whole streaker thing.  But I could pay a guy…

You’re welcome to seek me out, email, comment or whatever manner of contacting me suits you (no stalking please, I do have scruples) so we can meet up, discuss and hell, even vlog if you’re up for it.

Also, the Denver Metblogs Vlog project is still alive and kicking.  I rendered a instro (see below) and will be working on putting together ideas and thoughts for that part.  You’ll see a video from me here in the next few days on that topic.  So, you have my sexy hot mug to look forward to here in the next few days.  That’s motivation enough to check back or even add us to your feed readers.

Ok, at least give us a chance?

More to come in the next few days.

New Fancified Intro:

I don’t know anyone.

Last night hubby and I were talking about a friend of his, who’s soon to be wife, is having a hard time out here (in Colorado) and wants to move back to the state they came from. AH!

She’s having a hard time because she does not know what she wants to do for work (who does) and does not have a lot of friends. (They moved here because of his job.)

I feel bad for her. Truly! Meeting new people when you aren’t working can definitely suck.
And you don’t always want to mooch off your partner’s friends.
Although some times you can find some dear and lasting friends that way!!

Anyhoo – that got me thinking about my current social engagement calendar. As well as what the hubby is doing.
There are so many groups out there. All kinds of group – heck I even saw a knitting drinking group getting together at dazzle to help support the troops. Really – how cool is that? On so many levels! If only i could knit! Maybe i could go and hold the yarn?

    Some of my recent outings:
  • Denver Happy Hour – met at 9th door – all different walks of life and business and age etc etc etc
  • Yelp Elite Event – met at Jonesies Eat Bar – again all different kinds of people that come together because we like to eat!
  • Walnut Room for drinks – met up with a friend hubby made on twitter
  • Gym – tons of friends made there- and i’m usually a heads down, music loud, sweat it out typeo f gal
  • Cruise Room for drinks – a couple old co-workers, but also a friend of a friend – again another way to mooch and get some good people. they have already been vetted!
    Some of Hubby’s outings:
  • Denver Tweetup at Steuben’s – again a bunch of different kinds of people that are all on twitter
  • Re-Fresh at Forrest Room 5- some sort of web techie thing
  • My Brothers Bar – post re-fresh outing to talk about creating another gathering
  • RMAUG – rocky mountain adobe user group

What I’m getting at, is i could be busy every dang night of the week without trying. The one caveat – you have to make the effort to introduce yourself. Sure it can be nerve racking going into someplace where you don’t know anyone. But just put a smile on your face, put our hand and say “Hi, I’m Nicole, how are you?”

Denver has a fabulous network of groups that embrace all walks of life and cover just about anything you might do in your spare time, or for work!

Here is just a few off the top of my head! Please add your favorites in the comments!

Options for meeting people:

  • Yelp – events going on all the time – and you don’t have to be elite for most of them
  • Meetup

Techie Type Groups

The Denver art scene is everywhere!

We got a last minute text to come visit an art opening at Andenken. They have a small portion of a larger area. They are the big name, while a subset of local artist gather in the bigger area.

There was some fun and interesting art! Free beer on tab – or cheap wine and bottled beer if that was more your style.

Our favorites were:
Ben Eine
Buff Monster
and Shane Davis – he does some cool bowls with line drawings on them!
