Well, that anyone is a group of Westword staff, who put together a cast (complete w/ producers) and went downtown with thier cameras in tow to see what would happen…

Peace Officer Sez: “The problem is that that sign over there says the hours of this park are till dusk.”

- So I guess we broke the rules. Go figure, a bunch of church-going, frisbee-throwing, twenty-somethings (AND their pastor) got tossed out of a park. But we sure had fun playing Ultimate Frisbee with our fiber-optic lit frisbee (the Flashflight, and they’re local, w00t!). I guess what I’m thinking about is the fact that most parks do close at dusk. I understand the rule, and it mostly makes sense. Predators come out at night, and for the safety of the people it’s better to not be out in public spaces like that after dark. Also many parks are in residential areas, and that aspect makes sense too, people want a quiet neighborhood.

- But here’s where my thinking takes a turn. Look at all the places downtown, and in commercial areas, that are lit and patrolled late into the night. Our governments know that their citizens are out late, and they invest in those commercial areas that have night-time traffic. We pay good tax money, so why not have a park or two that is well lit into the evening, and patrolled. There are plenty of us active folk that would take advantage of it, I guarantee it.

(And I did positively ZERO research on this, so if anyone knows of a park or parks that meet this qualification, please do say so in the comments, I/we’d love to know about it.)

- So I just got home from my last day at my job, and I start the new one on Monday. Well, I guess you really can’t say it’s a totally new job, just that it’s at a different store, with different people and different potential. So as far as I’m concerned, it’s new, anywho…

- The job I just finished was at a store that was merely four blocks from my apartment. Now I’ll be working at a store that is about, well I’m not sure how many miles away, but it’s a 20 minute drive to get there. Only thing is, I don’t have a car. I haven’t for a long time now, but I’ve been close to work so hoofin it was the easiest way to get there. Not anymore.

- It’s mid month though, and since RTD doesn’t issue pro-rated monthly passes, I snagged a couple of 10-ticket passbooks. Now I have this fat wallet with passbooks sticking out of it, and I’m gonna have to figure out something to do with them. At least it’s only temporary, when I snag my monthly pass for July it’ll fit real nice in there.

- This whole thing has me thinking about the times when I’ve been a bus warrior. The good ones where you fully realize how stress-less it is to ride versus driving, and the bad ones when you missed the last bus, and it’s 1am on a Wednesday, so your only option is to call a cab. The people you see, the places you pass, riding the bus is an experience, and it’s one that I love. Looks like it’s You and Me, RTD!

- I met my first blogger tonight. I’ve met people that had blogs before. Many of my friends have blogs themselves (I got ya hooked didn’t I?). But until tonight I’d never met a blogger from ‘out there’ face to face.

- Right after this site went live I noticed some comments popping up here and on my own blog. Being the responsible blogger that I am, I went out to see who was knocking. It turned out to be fellow blogger, newly transplanted coloradan, and kindred spirit Kath, who runs the ever interesting A Likely Story. Comments led to email which led to IM’s which became a phone call. Long story short, these two bloggers weren’t gonna wait for an early April Rockies game to have beers and talk blogs. We were gonna do it now.

- We decided on Gordon Biersch, a national brewery and restaurant chain that has decided to grace Denver with it’s presence. Although GB has been in the Village at Flatirons since they built the mall, it’s been forever since I’ve gone. I went a few times years ago, but it’s been too long for me to do a fair comparison. The more I think about it, I realize that I had their food for take-out more than I actually ate there (I used to work at the Omni Interlocken Resort and we’d all get takeout regularly.).

- I had the Chicken Marsala and went for their seasonal micro (the tasty Maibach). I dug the beer and the food. I have to say that I’m still partial to the Italian style of Chicken Marsala that Carrabbas dishes up, but It was a good plate of food none-the-less. And for size? Points. It nearly took me the entire time to finish that plate off and Kath had to get a box for hers. We passed on dessert due to fullness, but stayed for a while longer.

- Kath and I talked a little about our traffic, blog chest-thumping I guess, but we’re both too humble for it to really be that. I guess I do this because love it, not always for the hits. But sitting there at the table with another blogger, I came to the realization that I’ve placed myself in the public eye through this. I’m not famous by any stretch of the imagination, and I could probably name most if not all of my regular readers. But through this and my own blog I’ve seen that there is a potential there, something I believe is unsurpassed in this information revolution. There is a world out there that is begging to be explored. Blogs are still new, but they are already changing the face of media as we know it. They are like that pre-teen that everyone knows is going to be a knockout, but still has pimples. There are and will be growing pains as we discover new and exciting ways to use this media, but blogging is something that will make it’s mark on this entire planet. It will make it’s mark on your country, your state, and your city. So do yourself a favor. Go meet a local blogger.

Thanks Kath, for dinner and for helping me expand my world.

- The Denver Public Library has been delivering downloads of eBooks and Audio eBooks for some time, and now they are going to be the first (major) library in the country to offer streaming of movies, videos and concerts. And from the looks of it, this entire system is brand spankin new, so new in fact that all the details aren’t yet worked out. Come March I’ll be sitting here with my DPL Card downloading movies, I can’t wait to try it.

- Tomorrow night at the Bluebird: Matson Jones is playing. They’re a local rock foursome (half and half on the sexes) that does it Cello style.
