One Lunch Date, Interrupted By Livestock
So my husband and I are meeting for lunch on the 16th Street Mall. I get off the Mall Shuttle, look around at our dining options, and text him:
[Me] Executive decision: Rialto Cafe.
[Him] Kk! OMW!
So far so good. Confident that it won’t take him long to get here from the 19th/California/20th/Broadway intersection tangle, I go in and order us drinks and cornbread.
Some minutes later:
[Him] Held up by cattle herd. I shit you not.
[Me] O RLY?
[Him] Yes. I has a picture, but not a great one because I was "zomg cattle!"
oooo I actually know why this is. There is a subway (really) and sometimes they have to move the cattle the comes in from Union to there or vice versa. As far as I know the Denver subway is only for cattle.
Of course then I thought about it….it’s national western stock show time…so it was probably a parade. Occam’s razor.
Well, i guess you didn’t read my post!
"But most important to me – is the parade!
Yes indeedie, there is a parade scheduled for Jan 13th crusing thru down town! Long horn cattle will be taking a jaunt come high noon on the 13th!"
tirjasdyn – It was probably way too subtle, but my "Well then" at the end of the post was in fact a link to the Stock Show web site. Although John was telling me something later about non-parade-related cattle movement much as you describe. Maybe that happens at another time of the year?
nwilker – ‘course I read your post! …just, not before this communication took place. Do ya like the photos? Those is hand-took photos! We’re especially fond of the No Left Turn sign.
Even as John was texting me about the cattle herd, I heard a couple of diners the next table over mentioning the Stock Show, and I put two and two together. We looked it up afterwards and became enlightened.
Love the photos – didn’t notice the turn sign, but now that you mention it – that is all that i see!
You didn’t get run over by long horns though, right?
