Narrowly Nacchio?

Seriously.   No, let’s try this again.  Seriously.  Please don’t take back the sweet taste of justice so many Denverites & Qwestites felt when He Who Doesn’t Deserve to Be Named was convicted in a resounding pounding of truth, justice and The American Way.  It appears they’re going to argue the “Truth” part of his first trial…by getting a second one warmed up on the sidelines.  Seriously.

9News reports in their story that broke today (and I just caught it as I was driving the home stretch from work) that (cringes while he types) Joe Nacchio will receive a second trial  You can catch up on all the relevant details at the Denver Post if you so desire.

My question is this: What do you feel about He Who Doesn’t Deserve to Be Named?  Any former or current Qwesties out there?  Are you with me in agreeing that getting him behind bars is the next best thing besides sliced bread?  Cough it up Denver, let’s stir the pot.

Look, I’ve lived here for over 10 years, and the morning I woke up and found out that Qwest was, in at least one limited area, one of the good guys, I thought I was in Bizzaro world.

But Qwest was rebuffing the government’s requests to spy on all of us…

Among the big telecommunications companies, only Qwest has refused to help the NSA, the sources said. According to multiple sources, Qwest declined to participate because it was uneasy about the legal implications of handing over customer information to the government without warrants.

…so that at least makes them somewhat less evil. Even if their DSL still sucks.

I don’t know if Nacchio’s arguments that the government was out to get him hold any water or not, I haven’t seen the material. But the argument deserves to be heard in a trial. The original judge seriously screwed up by not allowing the argument to be presented to the jury, as evidenced by the appeals court mandating the appointment of a new judge for the second trial.

On the basis of the misconduct by the judge, the appeals court might have thrown out the case all together, so if you’re convinced Qwest is evil, it could have been worse.

Feh, blockquote citation didn’t work. That’s taken from this USA Today article: http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-05-10-nsa_x.htm

And this blew so many people away that he would do something that so many other law eagles had been saying since they day he did it. Nottingham appears headed for the (rhetorical) gallows as he’s done some very stupid things lately…and nobody’s standing up for him.

As for the whole wiretap thing…that’s a can of worms for another day…:)
