Mall Down and Out

Buckingham Mall is no more. I remember going there once in my lifetime I’ve spent in Denver/Aurora. To be honest, I wasn’t really aware they were going to blow it up but it was part of the Havana Renovation Project (I think they called it something different. It’s 1am and I tired) that was approved last year and I just finally noticed all the fences going up around the mall and the cool pretty color posters that now decorate each corner giving us a rendering of what it will look like.

I picked up on this because today the destructo party got started. Thanks to a fellow Denverite, I’ve got the details here for you if you wanted to watch a Denver standby bite the big one if you missed it today. Here’s the link for pictures..

You can read some of the back story to what has been going on here.

And we have videos from a fellow Denverite as well. Check it out:

New Years Resolutions

Aight Denver. Time to saddle up and ride like there ain’t no tomorrow. What follows are my New Years Resolutions involving Denver and the Metro Area at large.

1:Hit up the unknowns. Get the story that nobody’s watching. Get the story of this City from her citizens, visitors and overlords. Get business cards printed and start pounding the pavement.

2: Food. Find the unusual, the amazing and the down right wrong. Take pictures. Paint a magnificent masterpiece of either praise or debunking. Get people excited about the food place. Also, challenge Jason Sheehan to some kind of Rumble in the Jungle. And lose.

3: Photograph the Mile High City from all the angles. Ugly, pretty or just plain vomit inducing. Bring the city out from behind the mountains and Downtown.

4: Write some more you lazy slob! I mean, seriously. I haven’t written any where near as much as I should have and I be flogging myself for two weeks as punishment. This should motivate and also bring about some better posting. Either that or it will be the oddest fourteen days evah’.

5: Get an interview with Mayor John Hickenlooper. As a closing question, ask him how he gets the ladies and if he some of that in a bottle. Cause I need some. Seriously.

6: People watch at Denver International Airport. Better yet, setup a kissing booth at DIA. Then, do not collect $200 and go directly to “Hey! Put me down!”.

7: Get this bloody list to 10 so I can feel like I accomplished something.

8: Video Blogging. Because without my ugly mug dancing around like a dying sea lion this blog is nothing. You hear me? Nothing!

9: Find a date with someone in the lonely city. Part 2, get a second and (if she’s still not reaching for her tazer) a third date.

10: Make my posts more funny. Hilarious. Milk out the nose and off the wall and into the trash can funny. Also, be real. Be myself.

Viva La Denver!.

Ready to share your voice with Denver?

or Boulder? or Golden (who has a Jack in the Box now!)? Or Littleton? Or, heck, even Highlands Ranch!?

If you answered ‘no’, well then fine, be that way, we didn’t want you anyway! I’m gonna grab my Magic The Gathering cards and go home!

If, however, you said yes… well them my friend let’s talk.

We can’t promise fame, book deals, money, Better seating at Illegal Pete’s, or well anything at all, but we can promise that your voice will be heard, your opinions will be made public, and you will be among the few, the proud (right guys?), the Denver MetroBloggers! Sound too good to be true? It’s not, we’re “hiring”. We’re looking for some fresh blood to add to our ranks, more voices to add to the chorus.

All you have to do is leave a comment, from there I’ll get in touch with you and get this party started.

Ready?

Any RIA developers in the hiz-ouse?

In case you didn’t know, or maybe just arrived, there’s a monthly meeting of the Denver RIA Developer Group. It’s actually an Adobe Flex User group, but you Silverlight folks can come too, we’re friendly. AJAXers, you come too, we love ya!

The group’s website changed recently so there’s a ton more features than the old meetup.com site. We’re actively looking for new members, new meeting locations and sponsors. The meetings are a blast, usually a nice small group, everyone hangs out, talks Flex, Flash, etc. Got a question that is stumping you? bring it, maybe some one can help you out.

There’s always plenty of Adobe schwag to be given away and the speakers are top notch.

The next meeting is this coming Tuesday (the 8th). The location is still TBD, so hop over to the site and take a look, sign up, keep informed. I’ll try to post here too, to make sure word gets out. Have a place they could meet? Leave a comment.

Cherry Creek is the New Vail

Check it out.

Just what the state needs, another 2nd, er, 3rd home outpost for the mega rich. Yay. That said, next year’s Trophy Wives of Cherry Creek wall calendar should be even hotter than 07s.

A neat way to have food at a party

It was my wife’s birthday the other day and we wanted to have a party at our new place. The problem with having a party at our place… Pot luck? Catering? We spend the day cooking?

None of those options really appealed to us, so my wife hit up a connection from Denver Divas (women out there, you should look into this. It’s a group of business women that get together, talk, drink, pillow fight, whatever. I’ve never been, for obvious reasons, but check it out).

We had heard about in home catering so we looked into that, and ended up having Michelle of Mangia Chef come out and whip up some truly kick ass finger foods and snacks. It’s a pretty slick deal, she finds out what you want, region wise, and amount of food-wise, number of people etc, then shows up with her own pots and pans, and ingredients, and goes to town.

The party got started, our friends arrived, she put everything onto our dishes for eatin’ and cleaned up the kitchen and bowed out. It was very cool and really nice not to worry about cleaning up the kitchen and stuff.

So if you’re looking for an alternative to BYOF, or Quiznos catering, the whole Chef comes to you thing is pretty cool, check it out. I can only speak from a single experience so far, but I know we’ll be doing our future parties this way. Wanna come? :)

Welcome 2008 to Denver.

Well, 2008 is here. Can you smell the difference? Me neither.

What excites you about 2008? For me it’s a few things.

  1. living in Denver. I can’t wait for the weather to clear enough to explore Denver more thoroughly than I’ve been able to living in Highlands Ranch. We’ve got plenty of Denverites (inos?) writing here (we’re always looking for more, drop a comment if you’re interested), but Denver has plenty of weirdness, coolness, and well… every other type of -ess to keep us all busy.
  2. The 2008 DNC. I’m doubtful I’ll be able to attend, but ya never know. In any case it being in Denver, and bringing so many politicos into town, that can’t help but be exciting, if for no other reason than the drunken (or otherwise) debauchery that will over take the city. It’ll be like The Real World is here, but 100% more shady, I’m guessing. Can’t wait.
  3. While not a sports fan, living so close to the ball park, I can’t wait to people watch, and enjoy the sounds of the game.
