Eagles Fans Eat Crow At The Lazy Dog

Look, I’m sorry. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer team. But someone had to lose.

It can be kinda lonely being a Saints fan in Boulder. No matter who the opposing team is, it always seems like their fans outnumber us. But it’s even lonelier watching at home–when I can watch from home, which in the regular season isn’t often, and the Saints so rarely get into the post-season–so I watch the game at Lazy Dog. The food’s good, the atmosphere is festive, and the view on their big flat screens is divine.

Also, when the Saints actually win, which they’ve been doing a remarkable amount of this time around, to the point that they are playing in the post-season and they earned the first-week bye… it’s kinda fun to watch the opposing team’s fans sorta shut up and shuffle off. ESPECIALLY when the second play of tonight’s game involved Reggie Bush getting hit like with a locomotive, and the guys the next table over seemed to relish the prospect of him not getting up again. “Welcome to the NFL, rookie!” they kept shouting (as though Reggie were playing in something other than the NFL for the past four months?), and they hooted and danced around while my boy was still on all fours trying to decide whether anything was broken. I’m a pretty amiable sports fan; I shared a table with a Redskins fan last month while our two teams faced off, and no blood was shed nor harsh words exchanged; but, dammit, injuries are no cause for celebration no matter which team they happen to. Plus, if your celebration involves actually facing the nearest Saints fan and hooting IN HER EAR as though that proved something, and jostling her table until her booze slops over the side in your hurry to get out on the floor and do your little dance, you’ve obviously had way too much sugar for the night.

They were very quiet on their way out the door. Meanwhile, I exchanged “woot!”s with the other table full of fans, and I called Mom to make sure she’d heard the good news. She said she hadn’t been watching; she says they always lose when she watches. I thanked her for not hexing the team.

The Saints are on their way to their very first conference championship game next week, and I’ll be watching it at the Dog again. If you wanna say hi, I’ll be the short kid wearing the white fleur-de-lis cap and knitting on a black-and-gold scarf. See y’all there!

This is my Who Dat?! scarf. Bow before its sparkliness.

Ethiopian food and Egyptian mummies

It isn’t even over yet, and it’s been a busy weekend. Of all the ethnic foods that are found around the country, I’ve discovered Ethiopian, twice… Once in Detroit, and here in Denver. My first experience was years ago when I was strictly a pizza, and tacos kind of guy, but when the client pays, you fly Southwest, and enjoy Ethiopian.

I noticed Arada when I was driving on Santa Fe, to and from a client, my wife had never experienced Ethiopian, so we agreed to remedy that. We’ve been back a few times, and were there yesterday with some friends. We normally get the Super Arada, which has a nice mix of meats and veggies, this time we did the Arada Six, we like it better, it’s our new favorite. If you’re at all adventurous and the idea of eating with your fingers doesn’t send you screaming to the nearest place with a spoon and fork on the table, you need to visit Arada on Santa Fe. Oh, and don’t bother ordering the Ethiopian beer, they’re always “out”.

Hi there neighbors!

Well since I’ve been outed, All you get for a first post from me is this. What you were gonna get was elephants on the 16th street mall, sky writing, a troop of clowns, and a midget, but…

So, I’m the new kid around these parts; both to Denver and this here MetroBlog. My wife and I moved here in October of ‘05 I won’t say where from for fear of retaliation :) But they’re not getting snow I can promise that.

I’m getting myself acquainted with things, planning all sorts of truly deep posts about things that will shake up the intertubes from here to… well from here to… at least Wash Park.

So stay tuned (oh and if I’ve done this wrong, it’s my first time using Moveable Type, don’t hate me)

Dem Con 08 in Denver…. Yawntastic!

Actually, I’m going to complain elsewhere on a more complaint friendly blog so if you want to read some ramblings on Denver getting the 08 nod, go here.

In other news, we’ve recruited a new blogger named John. He’s going to start posting any day now, aren’t you John?
